Our Story

John Scott, Founder and President of Iron-Lad Golf LLC

Thank you for visiting my website! My name is John Scott, Founder and President of Iron-Lad Golf LLC, This is my wife Mary. She is my rock!

One thing is sure…I have a passion for golf and for this industry. Though I have only been in the business side of the golf industry for a few years, I do understand the game and how it is to be played. Growing up as the youngest son of Scottish immigrants. My father taught me and my brothers the rules of the game and to make sure we understood those rules before teaching us about the game itself.

In my humble opinion, the rules are the most important aspect of the game.

My oldest brother Dave, took up the game right away and developed himself into a scratch golfer.  I however had other plans and put the game of golf on the back burner for a while. Deciding that working hard and making money was more important. A decision I do not regret, as I believe those decisions we make in everyday life, lead us right where we are to this day.

The fact that I didn’t play a whole lot as a young lad and filled with the notion that one day I would beat my older brother Dave (a scratch golfer), fueled my passion for the game in my later years.  I was hungry for it, I couldn’t get enough of it. I played as often as I could and practiced even more, on the weekends, during lunch, whenever. What was once a 32 handicap is now a 10.5 still reaching for that elusive single digit number.

One day, a few years back, I met a young man with the same passion as I have for playing the game and understanding the rules of golf. His name is Mark Doherty.

Over the years, as Mark and I played more golf together, we came up with an idea and decided to put it in motion, this idea that would change my life forever. you see, Mark and I had played a lot of golf together and were constantly trying to one up each other. The only real differentiator was our putting. Mark was always a very good putter. I was not so good.

Putting is one part of  my game that I never gave much  time to. Either I was too short to the hole or always off line. Others would tell me things like “the ball always rolls toward the water”, and though that is usually true it is not always true.

So Mark and I thought that there had to be a better way to line up your putts. A product that you could take with you on the course to help you read the greens. That is when we thought of our new idea.

LEVELHEAD AND POUCH GOLF TRAINING AIDSThat idea was, the “Levelhead”… Golf Putting Aid!

Since I have been using Levelhead, I can honestly say that my putts per round have become much lower than in the past. An average round of golf used to take me about 41 putts on a standard golf course, But since using Levelhead, I have that down to an average of 37 putts per round. But when my ball is within 6-7 feet or closer I am deadly on the greens. Thats not to say that I don’t miss ‘em every once in a while but my confidence has gotten to the point that I just know I’m going to make ‘em.

Working in our spare time and on weekends designing, developing and patenting this simple golf product became much more complex than either he or I had anticipated. Our dream of working in the industry full time became side tracked when we piled all of our blood, sweat, tears and funds spending the next two years of our golfing lives trying to find manufactures to pick up our invention…to no avail.

All of our hopes, dreams, aspirations and passion had been ground to a halt. Unfortunately at this time my partner and I had let this turn of events get in the way of our dream.

But I believed in our dream as I know my partner did and I felt compelled to make it happen, regardless of the circumstances. I decided to move things in another direction. This decision was perhaps the most important turning point of my “young golfing career”. I offered to buy my partner out and make the most of it on my own.

With the strong support and encouragement of my fiancé, I took a leap of faith and put everything I had into this adventure. Working from my garage and moving this business forward. Though it has not been an easy road, it certainly has been an adventurous one. I would not have had it any other way.

Oh yeah, in case you were wondering, I finally did beat my older brother, once, on a bad day, by one stroke though I don’t suspect that he will remember that. But I do suspect that I will have more of those winning moments to come. Though he is a little more apprehensive about playing me these days.

I hope you have enjoyed my story and that you find as much gratification using my products as I have. It certainly has changed the way I approach each and every putt. By giving me the confidence I needed to make those elusive 6 footers.

Enjoy your round and I hope to see you out on the course!
